In an article titled "OTSO: 101 Practice Problems for Lost Law Students and Bar Takers," Atty. Lex inMotion discussed a detailed guide, not only on what to answer (how to read bar questions), but also on how to answer. Each problem has been broken down and thoroughly discussed using the so-called "four (4) paragraph rule." And how to come up with the "strongest argument."

"The first step in answering every problem is to take a moment, and just take a deep breath."

"The next step is to take another deep breath."

"The next step is to read the very last sentence of the problem, the second to the last sentence, and then the last two sentences together this time."

"Bago mo sagutan ang problem, kapatid, ay mababasa mo kung ano talaga ang itinatanong ng examiner, at least three times"

"The last sentence helps us frame the problem. The second to the last sentence, might contain some vital clue as to what is being tested in this problem. Again, we can only be responsive if we know exactly what is being asked." [...] (End of emphasis).

𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐇 𝐑𝐔𝐋𝐄.

𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡.

Our answer should begin with our position.

"[E]very answer you write must be treated as if it were a miniature pleading. Begin by stating your short answer and then a preview of your position. Make it easy for the examiner to grade your work.

𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡.

Next, we need to write our legal basis. The law does not require that you cite the entire provision of the law. All that matters is you write the most relevant provisions of the law.

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡.

The third paragraph, kapatid, should contain your arguments.

Kung ang isusulat mo dito ay, “In this case, rape happened 16 years ago,” ay hindi ‘yan papasok. Kung ganito kasi ang sagot mo, factual ito. Inuulit mo lang ang facts na sinulat ng examiner.

Wala siyang pake kung nangyari ito 16 years ago. Hindi mo pwedeng ulitin sa examiner ang kwento na siya mismo ang sumulat. Baka tanungin ka pa niya nang, “Eh ano ngayon?!” [...] You need to write something pops, sizzles, and crackles. You need to argue in a way that your answer will stand out.

The best way to do that, is by leading with your strongest argument. What is the

strongest argument here? Our third paragraph should read as:

"In this problem, Alexis is correct because the sexual assault happened 16 years ago. It is too late now to prosecute the coach."

[...] The third paragraph should sell to the examiner the correctness of your answer.

𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡.

Finally, we have the conclusion. This is the part where most law students are awfully

confused. Maraming mga hindi na lang nagsusulat ng kanilang mga conclusion dahil ayaw lang nilang ulitin ang sinabi nila sa bungad ng kanilang mga sagot.

A good conclusion should wrap up your entire position, legal basis, and your arguments. It should function like a mic drop. Tipong pag nag-conclude ka na, kapatid, ay tapos na ang usapan. Uwian na, dahil may nanalo na.
