Nephiny Nyagaka: A Young Male Voice in Agriculture, Climate Action, and Youth Leadership

Nephiny Nyagaka is a young Kenyan male scholar, researcher, agricultural educator, and climate advocate passionate about sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and youth empowerment. Currently pursuing Agricultural Education and Extension (AGED) at Meru University of Science and Technology, he has continued to distinguish himself through leadership, research participation, scientific presentations, and community engagement.

Nephiny is actively involved in climate-smart agriculture, agroecology, indigenous seed systems, environmental conservation, and farmer communication. Through academic forums, strategic planning sessions, and field-based engagements, he demonstrates strong commitment toward building resilient food systems and sustainable livelihoods.

He is the founder of SOFA and serves as the Meru County Coordinator for the (KASA), roles that reflect his dedication to student leadership, agricultural networking, and youth-driven transformation within the agricultural sector.

He has participated in several national and institutional platforms. Notably, he presented at the Mara Day Scientific Conference at Maasai Mara University on environmental conservation and climate resilience in the Mara Basin ecosystem. He has also taken part in tree planting and public awareness initiatives promoting biodiversity conservation.

Additionally, Nephiny was selected to present research on climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in the agri-food system at the KALRO Socio-Economic and Policy Development Conference in Nairobi. His work continues to explore sustainable agriculture innovations, including greenhouse farming and soilless media production systems.

Beyond academics, he is a creative and multi-skilled young man engaged in graphic design, video editing, music production, and leadership. He also plays musical instruments such as piano and drums, using his skills to inspire and engage fellow youth through digital platforms.

Nephiny believes that young people play a critical role in transforming food systems, conserving the environment, and building climate-resilient communities. Through research, innovation, and collaboration, he continues to position himself as a future leader in sustainable agriculture and development.
