Amsterdam's Laid-Back Hours and a Chilly Surprise at Schiphol

Amsterdam's Relaxed Hours and a Chilly Surprise at Schiphol Airport

Amsterdam's reputation for a laid-back lifestyle seems to extend to its shop hours. I was surprised to learn that one particular store I wanted to visit only operated from 1pm to 7pm daily. Even most other shops seemed to follow a similar pattern, opening late and closing before 8pm, including those at the airport. This "late start, early finish" approach made me wonder if it was the typical way things functioned in the Netherlands.

Unfortunately, the weather upon arrival threw a wrench into my plans. My clothes weren't warm enough for the Amsterdam chill, and with many stores closed during the daytime hours, I decided against venturing into the city. Instead, I confined my exploration to the confines of Schiphol Airport (AMS).

One interesting detail about Schipol was the noticeable presence of uniformed personnel throughout the airport. This provided a sense of security. Additionally, the airport utilized a recent scanner technology, similar to what I'd encountered in Doha. While I didn't get to experience the city itself, the glimpse into Amsterdam's relaxed schedule and Schiphol's security measures offered a unique perspective on my brief layover.
