This article is about the life of the late Muhammad Ali, a world famous boxer and civil rights activist. Ali was born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr., in 1942 in Kentucky and was trained by Joe Martin at the age of twelve. He won the gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Summer Olympics and went on to become the undisputed world heavyweight champion. Ali was also a civil rights activist, leader of the Nation of Islam, and advocate for people with disabilities. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2019, and will continue to be remembered and celebrated for his accomplishments.
