Dealing with depression

People get depressed for different reasons which might include: the loss of a loved one, financial debt, economic hardship, rape, bad experience, hunger and starvation among others. Depression begins gradually with the following signs: Isolation, suicidal thoughts, worry and anxiety, fear, the feeling of emptiness, low self-esteem etcetera. 

Depression is not something one can easily snap out of, it requires deliberate steps and actions, the following are some of the ways to deal with and overcome depression:

1. Listening to music: listen to the genre of music that best suits your mood.

2. Surround yourself with family and friends, the dangers of isolation cannot be over-emphasised.

3. Exercising also helps to ease the tension.

4. Make new friends: if you can't be open and share issues with your existing family members and friends, make new friends who you can comfortably confide in.

5. Attend social gatherings 

6. Desist from taking alcohol, drugs and smoking.

7. Therapy: Seek counselling and help.
