Former KGB agent Jack Barsky has warned that the world is facing dangerous times and that Russia's poorly maintained nuclear arsenal could spark a World War III.
Barsky spent a decade spying on the US during the Cold War and likened today's situation to that period. He claimed that during the Cold War, the world came just one decision away from Armageddon several times.
With Russia's nuclear arsenal now aging due to poor maintenance, the danger of an incident that could spiral into a global conflict is increasing, according to Barsky. He added that Russia's invasion of Ukraine was Putin's biggest mistake, based on dodgy intelligence or willful ignorance.
The possibility of an accidental launch of nuclear weapons increases when tensions are high, Barsky said. Although Putin has threatened to go nuclear, Barsky believes these threats are meant to intimidate. Tensions between Moscow and Ukraine have risen after an apparent drone strike on the Kremlin.
Russia has claimed that the US was behind the attack. Barsky said that the situation between Russia and Ukraine is very serious and should not be underestimated.
