FG ₦50,000 Relief Fund 2026: How Nigerians Can Check Their Eligibility With USSD Codes
A new financial relief initiative from the Federal Government is attracting attention across Nigeria, with eligible vulnerable households set to receive ₦50,000 in support.
As the cost of food and other essential items continues to put pressure on household budgets, the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) is intended to provide financial assistance to Nigerians who need it most.
The Federal Government has announced that payments are being delivered through approved financial service providers. Nigerians can use the participating providers' USSD services to check their eligibility.
But before rushing to dial a code, it is important to understand how the programme works, who qualifies and how to avoid scammers pretending to offer access to the money.
What Is the FG ₦50,000 Relief Fund?
The National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention, known as NERSI, is a Federal Government programme coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Its purpose is to provide financial support to poor and vulnerable Nigerian households facing the increasing cost of living.
According to the ministry's official programme information, selected beneficiaries receive ₦50,000 as a one-off grant. It is not a loan, so beneficiaries do not have to repay it.
The government says the money is delivered through approved financial service providers into beneficiaries' mobile wallets.
Five USSD Codes Nigerians Can Use to Check Eligibility
The following are the five providers and USSD codes listed on the official NERSI website:
- MoMo PSB: Dial *6710#
- NairaGram: Dial *72600#
- ALAT by Wema Bank: Dial *94523#
- OPay: Dial *95520#
- Moniepoint: Dial *557327#
You can use the code for your participating provider and follow the available instructions to check your eligibility.
Important: These codes are for checking or accessing the programme through the listed providers. Dialling a code does not automatically mean you have been selected or that ₦50,000 will be credited to your account.
Who Is Eligible for the ₦50,000 Support?
The programme is intended for poor and vulnerable households.
According to the official NERSI information, beneficiaries are selected using verified national identity records and the National Social Register.
This means the programme is not an open giveaway where everyone who dials a code automatically receives money.
Some people may be selected in the current payment phase, while others may not be selected at this time. Payments are being released in phases, so not receiving a notification immediately does not necessarily mean that every future opportunity is closed.
The government also states that people cannot pay to be added to the beneficiary list.
How Will Selected Nigerians Receive the Money?
The official programme information explains that selected beneficiaries receive an SMS from an approved provider.
The message requests their consent to participate. After they accept and follow the instructions, a mobile wallet is opened or linked to their phone number, and the ₦50,000 support is credited.
The process is designed to work even for people using basic phones without mobile internet.
Always make sure that any message you receive genuinely comes from one of the approved providers. If you are uncertain, contact the programme through its official helpline before responding.
Important: Do Not Fall for Fake Relief Fund Messages
Whenever the government announces financial assistance, scammers may try to take advantage of people hoping to receive support.
Be careful if anyone:
- Asks you to pay a registration or activation fee.
- Claims they can guarantee your selection for a payment.
- Requests your ATM PIN, OTP, password or wallet recovery details.
- Sends an unfamiliar link asking you to enter personal information.
- Claims you must pay an agent to release your ₦50,000.
The Federal Government says the programme is free. You do not need to pay an agent, purchase a special package or send money to unlock the support.
Never share your PIN or OTP with anyone. If a message looks suspicious, stop and verify it before taking action.
Where Can You Get More Information?
For questions about the relief programme, the official NERSI website provides programme details and safety guidance.
The programme also lists this helpline:
0700-022-2222
Use the official helpline if you are unsure about a message, your eligibility or a request for money.
Don't Rush—Check the Information First
The ₦50,000 relief intervention could provide meaningful support to selected Nigerian households. However, it is important to understand that eligibility is determined through the programme's selection process, not simply by dialling a USSD code.
If you are interested, check the instructions through your participating financial provider and rely on official information rather than forwarded messages or promises from strangers.
