According to new data from Similarweb, "Gemini" is now the number one search query in America, with over 15 million searches per month. This is the first time an AI product name has beaten traditional search staples like "weather" and "maps" in raw traffic.
The massive spike comes after Google announced a major new update for Gemini AI this week. The update, called Gemini 2.5 Flash, is said to be faster, smarter, and now deeply integrated into Google Search, Gmail, and Android phones.
So why is everyone searching for it?
Google confirmed that Gemini will now be the default AI assistant on all new Android devices starting this month. It will replace Google Assistant completely. Users can now use Gemini to write emails, summarize YouTube videos, plan trips on Google Maps, and even edit photos just by talking.
Another reason for the surge is the new Gemini Live feature. This feature allows users to have a real-time voice conversation with the AI, similar to talking to a real person. Many users in the US have taken to TikTok to share videos of their conversations with Gemini Live, causing it to go viral.
Tech experts say this is a historic moment. "We have never seen an AI product overtake YouTube in search interest. It shows that Americans are no longer just curious about AI, they are now using it every day," said a tech analyst from California.
The rise of Gemini also comes as competition with ChatGPT intensifies. While ChatGPT still leads in global usage, Gemini is winning the US search battle because it is built directly into the phones and tools that Americans already use.
For creators and news publishers, this is big news. Google has stated that Gemini will start showing more real-time news and celebrity updates directly in its answers. That means websites that publish trending US news, like celebrity updates and World Cup 2026 coverage, are more likely to be featured.
If you have not tried the new Gemini update yet, you can access it now at http://gemini.google.com or by updating your Google app on Android and iPhone.
