I used to think God was partial... This has to do with the way those biblical stories were told to me... Why would God choose Israel when there were other nice kingdoms to pick?
And, a term, "grace" comes to play. Was God just graceful to those whom He wanted to be graceful to? No! I don't think so; life is figuratively not free. We somehow pay for the life we have. If life were to have been free as we posit, then there would literally be no life at all.
The story of Esau and Jacob pained my heart. I saw God as partial for choosing a betrayal over his brother. I was also lost on other stories, like that of Joseph, Abraham, David, Mary, Paul, etc.
Grace is simply an opportunity. But before this opportunity is dished out, something must evoke or trigger it. God is not partial. He knows how to work with people based on what they have on ground. Now, men like Abraham and Moses didn't just get God's favour like that. They did something...
Gifted children are also not just born like that. "Something" was done by "someone"...
