STAGE FRIGHT AND HOW TO TACKLE IT
Before I proceed on this important topic, I'd like to say that as singers, musicians, vocalists, public speakers and all, stage fright happens to all of us, at one point in our lives or the other. But it's more pronounced in some people than others.
It is minimal and less pronounced in others as it is well mastered and managed.
WHAT IS STAGE FRIGHT?
It is the feeling of fear, anxiety and discomfort you have, when you perform (sing, act, dance etc) on stage, in a social function or engagement.
It is when you are scared of standing before an audience or crowd to perform in (singing, acting, playing a musical instrument, public speaking etc).
STAGE FRIGHT happens for so many reasons.
I'm going to talk about some of them below:
1. POOR PREPARATION.
Stage fright can happen to you if you are not prepared or poorly prepared.
2. UNCERTAINTY
If you are not certain of the response of your audience to your performance, it can send signals of fright.
3. NATURAL INSTINCT
Some people naturally fear to stand on a stage, in front of people to perform. They are not comfortable with it. Fear is in their nature (they are natural frightful)
4. UNFAMILIAR (FACES) AUDIENCE.
If you are performing to an unfamiliar crowd of people or to people you're not used to, it can give you stage fright.
5. AN EMBARRASSING SITUATION.
When you experience an embarrassing situation on stage, it can give stage fright.
6. NEGATIVE THOUGHTS
When you think about negative outcomes even before you start, it will give you fright.
7. GENETIC INHERITANCE
Some people's fright is hereditary. They inherited the trait from either of their parents.
8. EMOTIONAL FACTOR.
Some people are weak emotionally and so are easily affected when they come across certain situations. It may be in their relationships it so. They tend to react in their emotions and this can cause fear.
9. PAST EXPERIENCES.
Some people have had bad experiences in the past and so are obsessed by it. It will take time, discipline and self control to overcome it and become confident again.
