The Chip Manufacturing Facility of Viettel

The Chip Manufacturing Facility of Viettel In the Hoa Lac High-Tech Park, on the morning of January 16, Viettel held a groundbreaking ceremony for its 27-hectare semiconductor chip manufacturing plant project. It will make use of the 32NM chip technology.

The goal of the facility is to serve as a national infrastructure for semiconductor chip research, design, testing, and production. The plant will be able to supply national industries like the Internet of Things (IoT), automotive manufacturing, medical equipment, automation, aerospace, and telecommunications once it is operational. Vietnam intends to train 50,000 chip design engineers as part of its human resource development program for the semiconductor industry by 2030, and its national semiconductor strategy intends to employ over 100,000 people in the semiconductor industry by 2040. Product definition, system design, detailed design, chip fabrication, packaging-testing, and integration-testing are the main stages of a complete semiconductor chip product. Vietnam has gradually participated in five stages; however, domestic chip fabrication, which is regarded as the crucial but most difficult stage, is not yet feasible. Although many domestic businesses can design, production still needs to be outsourced to factories in other countries. Important: Increasing domestic chip manufacturing capacity, lowering import dependence, serving the national strategic industry, and protecting national security are all benefits. In the context of Vietnam's need to increase its level of self-reliance, this project serves as evidence of the country's sustainable development strategy by gradually acquiring semiconductor technology.
