The Indonesian black chicken popularly known as "Ayam Cemani" is a rare breed of chicken from Indonesia.
They have a dominant gene that causes hyperpigmentation, making the chicken black, including feathers, beak, and internal organs.
The Cemani is a very popular gamecock for cockfighting in Bali. This is due to the fact that their thighs have much more muscle compared to other chickens.
Ayam Cemani chicken farming is becoming popular. It is a dual purpose breed which is raised for meat & mystical purposes. Very little is known about the history or creation of this breed.
The word ‘Ayam’ means chicken in Bahasa Indonesia, and ‘Cemani’ is a village near the central Javanese town of Solo where these birds originates from.
