2023: Peter Obi will need a miracle to prevail-Atiku

According to Atiku Atiku, Mr. Obi made a mistake by defecting from the PDP to the Labour Party, and as a result, he has very little chance of winning the 2023 presidential election.

The People's Democratic Party's (PDP) Atiku Abubakar has criticized Peter Obi, his rival from the Labour Party (LP), for his efforts and desire.

He said that Mr. Obi made a mistake by defecting from the PDP and that he had very little chance of winning the 2023 presidential election.

This was said by Atiku in a Friday interview with Arise TV.

Before leaving the PDP, Mr. Obi, the party's flag bearer, campaigned for president on the PDP's platform.

Three days before the PDP's presidential primary, he quit the party, claiming "developments in the party" as his explanation.

In a letter to the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, he said, "Unfortunately, recent events inside our party make it hard for me to continue participating and making productive contributions."

Atiku chose the former governor of Anambra State to be his running mate in the 2019 presidential contest.

Nigerian millennials, notably on social media, have been vocal in their support for Mr. Obi as the LP candidate in the 2023 election. They identify as "OBIdients" on social media.

Yusuf Baba-Ahmed was just introduced as the candidate's running partner.

In his interview, Atiku disputed the size of the former governor's support base, pointing out that they were absent from the just ended Osun State gubernatorial election.

He also allayed concerns that the LP's actions would harm the PDP's chances of winning the presidency.

"I really don't anticipate the Labour Party taking many votes away from the PDP, as some have speculated." They lack all forms of government, including a governor and a parliament.

It will take a miracle for the Labour Party, which lacks a grassroots organisation, to win the election.

"They claimed on social media that Osun State had one million votes, but how many really do they have?"

"In the northern region of the nation, 90% of the population lacks access to social media. The majority of voters don't use social media, he said.

Moreover, Mr. Obi "did not consult him" before quitting the PDP, according to Atiku.

Three days after making his Labour Party announcement, he just told me.

Many Nigerians, including Atiku, have criticized the "OBIdient movement" for being overconfident and lacking a grassroots organization.

As a presidential candidate speaking about an opponent, Sam Amadi, a political analyst, said that although Atiku is correct to disregard Mr. Obi's efforts, the Labour Party's votes in the election may harm the PDP's prospects in certain states.

However, he said that Mr. Obi's backing would likely result in the "Obama effect," where the new group of voters would be predominated by young people who were motivated to cast their ballots for change.

He continued by saying that although it may not be feasible right now, it could be in the future.

If elected president in 2023, Mr. Obi has pledged to, among other things, resuscitate the country's economy.
