30 Most Hated Songs of All Time
30. Dance Monkey – Tones and I
The only positive thing we can say about this song is that Tones came out of nowhere to deliver one of this century’s biggest hits, becoming one of the most streamed songs ever. Unfortunately, that’s where the praise ends. With its shrieking vocals and an earworm of a chorus, Dance Monkey lays a legitimate claim to being one of the most annoying songs ever recorded. If nothing else, you can’t say it’s forgettable—if only because everyone who hears it wishes they could forget it.
29. Miracles – Insane Clown Posse
“If magic is all we’ve ever known, then it’s easy to miss what goes on.” While it’s hard to argue that Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope had good intentions when crafting this ode to the beauty of everyday life, the goodwill quickly runs dry when you realize how easily explainable some of the “miracles” listed in the song truly are. Over a beat that sounds like holding music from a bank, the duo expresses amazement at giraffes, cats, dogs, and magnets (yes, magnets). Listening to a grown man demand to know how magnets work while calling scientists liars will make you question whether the internet was a good idea.
28. Facts – Tom MacDonald and Ben Shapiro
“They call me offensive, controversial. There’s only two genders, boys and girls.” Viral hip-hop performer Tom MacDonald is a walking contradiction. A Canadian rapper making MAGA rap—a right-wing political subgenre—MacDonald routinely tackles hot-button culture war topics like “wokeism” and the supposed tyranny of the political left. Facts are his most crystal-clear expression of ideology, featuring a lifeless rap verse by conservative pundit Ben Shapiro. Tired, clichéd, and petulant, the song aims to provoke controversy but instead elicits yawns from bored listeners.
27. Stupid Hoe – Nicki Minaj
This pounding promo single from Minaj’s Roman Reloaded album is so reviled that even her most diehard fans struggle to defend it. Over an unrelenting, deeply annoying beat, Nicki tears into her rap rival Lil’ Kim without doing her career any favors. While a few of her bars may have you nodding in approval, Stupid Hoe is repetitive, grating, and bizarrely squeaky. The closing moments, where Minaj’s sing-songy delivery sounds improvised, make the whole thing feel like a half-thought-out sketch of a song.
26. Thong Song – Sisqó
“That dress is so scandalous, and you know another n***a couldn’t handle it.” While Thong Song may be a guilty pleasure for some, it’s a total cringeworthy for others. Ostensibly intended as a sensual come-on, Sisqó’s crowning achievement instead comes across as a deeply corny and weirdly specific plea. Believe it or not, the song was originally intended for Michael Jackson. A creepy, embarrassingly sexist time capsule, Thong Song is good for a few laughs but not much else.
25. The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?) – Ylvis
Norwegian comedy duo Ylvis never intended to make the next Let It Be with The Fox. Even by their admission, it’s an objectively silly novelty song. However, the track surpassed their wildest dreams, becoming a global phenomenon. Over time, though, The Fox morphed from a pleasantly diverting earworm into an omnipresent headache. At this point, we’d almost rather listen to Baby Shark.
24. Who Let the Dogs Out – Baha Men
Would you believe this vapid singalong was originally intended as a feminist anthem? According to songwriter Anslem Douglas, the titular “dogs” were men who catcalled women. However, the Baha Men’s cover of the song quickly became a worldwide smash—and an equally worldwide annoyance.
23. Achy Breaky Heart – Billy Ray Cyrus
Long before he was known as Miley Cyrus’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus rose to fame with his debut single, Achy Breaky Heart. While it was beloved at the time, the song has since developed a reputation as a track people love to hate. Its inclusion on VH1’s 50 Awesomely Bad Songs Ever list says it all.
22. Boom Boom Pow – Black Eyed Peas
“I got that hit that beat the block.” Over five excruciating minutes, the Black-Eyed Peas expound on their greatness, declaring themselves “thousands of years ahead” of the competition. Despite its enormous success, Boom Boom Pow is a repetitive, robotic mess that feels like it’s about nothing.
21. Ice Ice Baby – Vanilla Ice
Vanilla Ice boldly claimed in 2021 that if he released Ice Ice Baby today, it would “fit into today’s lyrical respect.” While the jury is still out on that, the song has garnered substantial hate for its silliness, lack of originality, and unauthorized sampling of Queen’s Under Pressure.
20. Rockstar – Nickelback
Nickelback’s Rockstar is one of their most disliked songs, despite its commercial success. Critics have called it “terrible,” and it was even named the worst single of the year in a Pop justice poll.
19. Timber – Pitbull featuring Kesha
Is there anything more 2013 than Pitbull and Kesha? While Timber was a commercial success, its incessant harmonica and sleazy lyrics make it a grating listen.
18. Swagger Jagger – Cher Lloyd
With a title like Swagger Jagger, you know what you’re getting into. Cher Lloyd’s debut single blatantly rips off Oh My Darling and Clementine and bombards listeners with obnoxious vocals and a piercing digital beat.
17. The Ketchup Song – Las Ketchup
Often compared to “The Macarena, “ “The Ketchup Song “ was tailor-made for success with its dance routine and catchy beat. However, its repetitive chorus quickly becomes annoying, leaving listeners with an unpleasant aftertaste.
16. Party in the USA – Miley Cyrus
Initially meant for Jessie J, Party in the USA marked a pivotal moment for Miley Cyrus. While catchy, the song reeks of manufactured pop and features an overly cheesy backing track.
15. #SELFIE – The Chainsmokers
Even the title makes us cringe. Capitalizing on the selfie craze of the early 2010s, this shallow, repetitive track is irritating in every way.
14. The Hampsterdance Song – Hampton the Hamster
A nostalgic internet meme turned into a song, The Hampsterdance Song is a squeaky, headache-inducing mess that should have stayed in the early internet era.
13. Stars Are Blind – Paris Hilton
Paris Hilton’s attempt at a pop career didn’t do her any favors. While Stars Are Blind isn’t as bad as it could have been, Hilton’s breathy vocals and the track’s one-dimensional nature make it a frustrating listen.
12. Axel F – Crazy Frog
Crazy Frog’s remix of Axel F is nauseating. The gibberish singing and motorcycle revving noises ruin an otherwise solid melody.
11. Blurred Lines – Robin Thicke featuring T.I. and Pharrell Williams
Blurred Lines is widely criticized for its problematic lyrics and sexist music video. Lines like “I know you want it” have been deemed creepy and uncomfortable, making the song hard to enjoy.
10. My Humps – Black Eyed Peas
“My hump, my hump, my lovely lady lumps.” Need we say more? This song is boring, redundant, and widely criticized for its objectifying lyrics.
9. Crank That (Soulja Boy) – Soulja Boy
While the dance was iconic, the song itself was loud, obnoxious, and grating.
8. Look What You Made Me Do – Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift’s attempt at a villainous persona fell flat with Look What You Made Me Do. The tough-girl lyrics feel forced, and the repetitive hook is disappointing.
7. Cotton Eye Joe – Rednex
Mixing techno with bluegrass, Cotton Eye Joe is a chaotic, disjointed mess that’s hard to enjoy.
6. You’re Beautiful – James Blunt
Overplayed to the point of irritation, You’re Beautiful is saccharine and cheesy, with nasal vocals that aren’t for everyone.
5. I’m a Gummy Bear – Gummibär
This high-pitched, autotuned novelty song is one of the most aggravating tracks of the 2000s.
4. Whip My Hair – Willow Smith
Willow Smith’s vocals are impressive, but the endlessly repeated chorus ruins what could have been a decent song.
3. It’s Everyday Bro – Jake Paul featuring Team 10
Jake Paul’s attempt at a diss track is riddled with horrible rapping and shameless boasting.
2. Friday – Rebecca Black
Poor Rebecca Black became a national laughingstock after Friday was released. While she didn’t deserve it, the song was immediately criticized by pretty much everyone and became a national laughingstock. It even became the most disliked video on YouTube for a while.
1. Baby - Bieber featuring Ludicrous.
Justin Bieber has really come a long way since Baby was released in 2010. The song Baby was widely detested. Although Bieber’s fame grew, he attracted hatred the likes of which was rather staggering. Despite its chart success, the song remained the most disliked video in YouTube’s history for years.
