Building self-esteem
Self esteem is simply the confidence you have in yourself. It is the value you attach to your worth or characteristics. Often times we look down on ourselves by filling up out mind with negative thoughts. We ask ourselves questions like. Can I ever be as rich as my neighbor? Why am I so unlucky? Why am I so ugly?
The above mentioned kind of thoughts come into your mind when you have a low self-esteem esteem.
When your self-esteem is low, you will also not be able to battle with life challenges, you might think that shying away from the challenges life throws at you because you feel less of yourself is a way of feeling safe, but no, you got it wrong. It will destroy you slowly.
Moreover, low self-esteem can cause harm to your mental health, thereby introducing problems like anxiety and depression which will slowly kill or destroy you. So, build your self-esteem today.
On the contrary, when you have a high self-esteem you tend to believe in yourself. The only thing that comes into your mind are disclaiming thoughts, and these thoughts will only make you degrade yourself.
Now you must have noticed that whenever you have a positive and high self-esteem, you always feel good about yourself and life in general. You would easily be around to shun every negative depressing thoughts instantly and see only the bright side of whatever you engage in.
Proud people are most times considered as people with high self-esteem. And yes, there are proud people out there but quite a number of these proud people have low self-esteem. We only think they have high self-esteem because of their reactions. On the other side of this, they are only trying to protect themselves, they do this to cover up and make people think they have it all.
People with high self-esteem are always positive and they believe so much in themselves. So long as your high self-esteem does not affect others, I see no reason why your self-esteem should not be high.
However, there are 5 easy steps to take in order to build your self-esteem. These steps include:
1. Avoid negative relationships: One of the fastest and most essential step in conquering low self-esteem is by cutting off negative people from your life.
Everyone has at least a person or two that gives them negative vibes. Such persons use every opportunity they get to make you feel bad about yourself. Their main aim is to build a house of negative thoughts in your mind. They discourage you even when you try to do something good. Try your best to avoid these set of persons, especially if you are someone who is easily influenced.
2. Avoid negative thoughts: Whenever a negative thought pops up in your head, rebuke it. Fill your mind up with things that will make you feel good about yourself.
3. Engage yourself in activities you're good at: Everyone has one thing or another that he or she is good at, if could be cooking, singing, swimming, dancing, etc. Doing what you like will help you improve your mood and the resultant effect is a boost of your self-esteem.
4. Treat yourself nicely: Be gentle to yourself. Whenever a friend is in a depressing state, we often console and give better advice and treatments to them than ourselves. This is extremely wrong, treat yourself as nicely as you would treat a friend.
