Recall that it have been tweeting online for some time now that the former deputy speaker of the Nigerian senate Chief Ike Ekweremadu(60yrs) and the wife Beatrice(55yrs) tricked and transported a minor David Ukpo to the United Kingdom for Organ Harvesting
As was reported, David Ukpo, an underaged boy from Ebonyi State was picked from the streets of Lagos by the Ekweremadu's, tricked and lured to the UK on 20th February, 2022 with promises of giving him a better life over there. Unknown to him as he alleged, it was just for his organ(Kidney) to be harvested and possibly transplanted into their daughter Sonia who is presently battling with kidney issues there in the UK.
On arrival, he was taken to the Royal Free Hospital to undergo some tests and that was when he actually found out from the doctor his reason for being there. He then ran out, was homeless for some days before turning himself in to Staines Police Station on May 5, 2022, explained his situation and was placed under protective custody
According to UK Law, this is a crime that involves exploitation of a minor and the harvesting of an organ under the Modern Slavery Act 2015
Based on this, the Ekweremadu's were arrested on June 21, 2022 after flying into Hearthrow airport from Turkey. As at the time of their arrest, the senator was said to have $20,000 and E16,700 on him
They pleaded not guilty before the court and reiterated that the boy is not a minor and was pre - briefed by them on the arrangement which he agreed to. They went on to say that because he did not want to go back to Nigeria because his kidney did not match, he decided to lie against them and seek asylum premised on the fact that he will not be safe if he goes back to the streets of lagos. The case was then adjourned to allow the defence prepare their briefs
But in a recent twist to the case, it have been reported that the supposed minor on his own freewill have personally confessed to the police that he is not a minor and is not under 21 years. This confession have thus exonerated the Ekweremadu's to an extent as it is now ascertained that that there is no exploitation involved and the judge therefore strucked out section 45
The boy is still currently under protective custody and the Ekweremadu's still remanded pending the date of the next court sitting adjourned till the 4th of August, 2022 at the Central Criminal Court
As the public awaits the decision of the court and the outcome of the case, we pray for the life of their poor daugther Sonia who is fighting for her life now. An innocent part of this whole saga who is in the middle of this case by no fault of hers apart from the fact that she is sick and desperately need kidney transplant. May God save her
We also pray for David Ukpo who is also in the middle of this whole saga because of the economic situation in the country that he innocently find himself in. Wheather he was pre- briefed of the arrangement or not, the bottom line, the ugly truth remains that the economic mess this country finds itself in is the cause of this whole problem. May God save the jobless youths and the suffering masses who die in doves of hunger every day. May God save Nigeria and give us good, competent and God fearing leaders.
