Another Kenyan, A Mother Of Two Among Five Arrested In Singapore Over Drug Trafficking.

A 43-year-old Kenyan woman, identified as Joyce Njeri from Nakuru County, has been arrested at Changi Airport, Singapore, alongside four other women, on charges of drug trafficking.

The arrest occurred on July 29, 2025, when authorities intercepted the group carrying nearly 27 kilograms of cocaine hidden within their luggage. Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has since pressed capital charges against the suspects, citing the severe nature of the offence under Singapore law.

Other Kenyans arrested in that bust include Faith Awino Ouma (27), Genetrix Atsieno Juma (27), and Emily Rodha (30), along with Joyce Njeri Mburu (30).

Singapore enforces strict drug laws, and trafficking carries a mandatory death penalty in many cases. Meanwhile, the news has reignited debate back in Kenya about the risks some Kenyans take chasing fast money abroad, and calls for stronger awareness campaigns on the dangers of drug syndicates.

As the case unfolds, all eyes are on Singapore’s courts—and many back home are watching nervously for how the verdict will impact international citizen protection.
