Try to think of the earliest forms of writing. The early man started to record events in their lifetimes through engrossing pictures on stones cave walls as those were their dwelling places. Continuously, they improved on the images drawn or written. The art of using sharp objects to write or blood from the hunted animals to paint grew gradually until they were able to record more logical information that has helped us to understand the past!
However, my interest is on one aspect of this art. The use of free hand to do the writing. The earlier scholars developed good handwritings leading to formations of letters which could be joined to form words and sentences we boast of today.
Have you ever noticed that most people are having poor handwriting? Majority today face this challenge as a result of the use of technology. Typing using computers is a great deal. It has made our work easier but we are forgetting the origin of all this. We need to emphasize on the use of free hands when writing of drawing to at least uphold that skill passed to us by our ancestors.
My worry is that as the world continues to grow, we will be drifting away from using our free hands to write. Our children might never even be able to hold a pen, pencil or crayons to write and draw! It is a very important psychomotor skill that we should never dream of eracing. How wonderful it is when you hear someone comments on a good handwriting or a well drawn picture using pencil.
Let's maintain the use of free hands in writing or drawing. If we only use computers or any other technological machine, why call it writing??
