Australia is looking for skilled workers in 2026 and Nigerians can apply without paying any agent. Many people think you need to pay N2 million to agent, but you can do it yourself if you follow the right steps.
The Australian government has released new work visa opportunities for 2026 for people with skills in healthcare, construction, IT, agriculture and hospitality. The good news is that you do not need to have a relative in Australia to apply.
Who Can Apply?
If you are between 18 and 45 years old, have at least SSCE or Diploma, and can speak small English, you can try. Australia needs nurses, caregivers, cleaners, farm workers, drivers, and IT workers. Even if you don't have degree, some farm and hospitality jobs are available.
Steps To Apply Without Agent:
1. Create SkillSelect Profile: Go to http://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au and create an Expression of Interest (EOI). It is free.
2. Choose The Right Visa: For work, choose Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage) or Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent). 482 is easier if you have a job offer.
3. Find Employer Sponsor: Search for jobs on http://Seek.com.au, http://Indeed.com.au, and http://Jora.com.au. Send your CV directly to employers. Many Australian farms and care homes are hiring foreigners and will sponsor your visa.
4. Do Skills Assessment: Some jobs need you to assess your certificate. For example, nurses need AHPRA assessment. But for farm work and caregiver, no assessment needed.
5. English Test: Do IELTS or PTE. You need at least 5.5 overall. You can prepare for 2 weeks online for free.
6. Submit Visa Application: Once employer sponsors you or you get invitation from SkillSelect, you apply online and pay visa fee of about 3,000 AUD (around N3 million). But you pay this yourself, not to agent.
How Much Does It Cost Without Agent?
If you do it yourself, you will spend only for IELTS (N150k), Skills Assessment (N100k if needed) and Visa fee. Total less than N1 million before you travel, compared to N3-N5 million agents charge.
Warning: Do not pay any agent who says "Pay N500k and I will give you Australia visa in 2 weeks." All visa applications are online and you can track it yourself.
