Warhammer is a tabletop miniature wargame set in a fantasy world known as the Warhammer Universe. There has been interest in adapting the franchise into a film, and Legendary Pictures acquired the rights to do so in 2017. The film was initially set to be directed by Neil Marshall and have a "dark and gritty" tone, but Marshall left the project in 2018 and it is currently unclear who is attached to the project or what its status is. The complexity of the Warhammer Universe and the difficulty in translating its dark and violent themes to the big screen may be contributing factors to the delays.
