One of the things about depression is that it comes with a lot of negativity. It feels like you can't do anything good, like your whole life is a mess, all your thoughts are negative.
First, what is depression? According to the English dictionary, in psychotherapy, and psychiatry, it is a state of mind producing serious long term lowering of enjoyment of life or inability to visualize a happy future.
Depression can be caused due to challenges like a job loss, loss of a loved one, a heartbreak, or having issues in a relationship, it could also be due to stress from work, school, when you are losing at something.
Most depressing cases are traced to loss of loved ones and relationship issues. When you're faced with challenges like this, you should know this; the work is not over, you are not alone, things can always work out fine someday.
Here are some things you may go though duringda depressive phase and things you should do and shouldn't do.
Withdrwing from people: You could be the goody friend everyone sees around in the neighborhood, but when going through a hard time like this, you withdraw into your shell. It's okay to do this for some time but you shouldn't wallow in it for long, put your mental health first and step out.
Addictions: When you're indoors all the time, you hardly have anything to do, you could develop some bad habits, might not be necessarily dangerous , for example you could take to drinking too much or eating too much junk. This is the m reason why you should step out and try new things.
Ghosting people: You feel like nobody cares about you but that's just the negative part of it, you haven't reached out to people to talk to them about your problems ( people you trust), talk to someone, your best friend or sibling or parent, remember a problem shared is a problem solved.
You can also listen to good music, sign up for a gym class, join a book club, read new books, find something you'll enjoy while getting over the phase. And if you can afford it, get a therapist.
We are all humans and we go through these stages at one point in life. Protect your mental health and don't forget to eat healthy.
Peace
