TOPIC: BENEFITS OF A HEALTHY DIET
From time immemorial, humans and animals have always faced the incessant need to satisfy their hunger and thirst urges in some way. These urges originate from innate body mechanisms such as digestion and absorption. When we talk of diet, diet is not just what we decide to throw down into our stomachs, diet refers to the type of food an animal or person eats habitually or daily. Diet can also be defined as the course of food a person chooses to consume to lose weight or gain muscle. Some of the benefits brought about by a healthy diet have been discussed below.
To start, by an individual eating a healthy diet, they have a more sufficient immune system. Fruits such as pineapple are loaded with essential vitamins and minerals that help the body fight off potential diseases. They are packed with vitamin C which helps prevent diseases such as the common cold and sore throat. This is because most bacteria and viruses are not able to thrive in environments where there is a high content of vitamin C.
To add on, healthy diets have shown an improved state of mental well-being. Healthy habits such as drinking several glasses of water a day help flush out toxins in the kidneys and brain that cause memory fog and forgetfulness. Additionally, healthy foods such as fish contain omega 3 which improves concrete memory and recall. When people consume foods such as these, they will notice positive improvements in how their memories function.
Moreover, practicing a healthy diet has resulted in a reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases. Present studies suggest processed foods such as sausage and bacon contain large amounts of trans-fat which is a deadly type of fat that is not well broken down by the body and ends up being deposited in the blood vessels connecting to the heart. This then causes issues such as high blood pressure or stroke. To avoid that, people can opt for healthier foods such as olive oil, plant-based meats, and even whole grain foods which break down these fats into soluble forms reducing high blood pressure and artery blockage.
Additionally, if a person practices a healthy diet, their skin texture and composition benefits as well. People who tend to consume more fruits and vegetables tend to have smooth, and healthy skin. This is due to the antioxidant properties packed in the vegetables and fruits. The antioxidants loosen up any chemicals trapped in the sweat ducts of the skin resulting in a smoother and well-textured outer look. This is why people should have varied portions of a meal, not too much meat and not too many carbohydrates.
All in all, the process of practicing a healthy diet comes with its challenges and benefits. Not all people even have the resources or funds to purchase these healthy foods. Some people even struggle with the discipline of maintaining a healthy diet, thus failing to achieve their nutritional goals.
