BFP is also one of the frontliners during this trying times. They were also there to render service during the Synchronized Quarantine Control Point/ Checkpoint as part of their active measures to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 during the past two years.
BFP personnel do not just wear trousers and bunker gears; they also have other uniforms because they do more than just fire suppression. At a layman's point of view, the BFP is only mandated to do fire fighting, but aside from suppressing destructive fires and investigating its causes, the Bureau of Fire Protection is the sole enforcer of the "Fire Code of the Philippines" or Republic Act 9514. RA 9514 mandated them, the BFP, to enforce the law to all persons, buildings, facilities or structures erected before or after its effectivity.
That entails the BFP to conduct fire safety inspections, building plan evaluation, and other duties in ensuring the safety of the public.
They are no longer your traditional firefighters, because they are also trained in various skills, i.e. rope rescue techniques, emergency medical services, handling incidents involving hazardous materials, rescue and retrieval operations and other services which will save the lives and properties of our dear countrymen.
They just don't focus on suppression but rather more on prevention. They are making sure that establishments follow the fire safety measures that the Fire Code has established. They also conduct fire safety seminars and trainings to schools and barangays to increase awareness in fire safety and create a fire safe community. So if you are wondering what they are doing while the sirens are not ringing, rest assured my friend that they are working.
And just because you are not aware of it, doesn't mean it is not happening.
