Dangote faults quality of imported diesel, demands investigation

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, raised concerns about substandard petroleum products being imported and sold to Nigerians during a recent visit by the House of Representatives leadership to the Dangote Refinery in Lagos State. He emphasized the urgent need for an investigation into potential sabotage or ulterior motives in the oil sector affecting his business.

Dangote highlighted discrepancies in quality testing, asserting that his refinery's diesel meets stringent standards compared to imported products. He presented evidence showing his diesel's superior quality, with sulphur content significantly lower than that found in samples from local filling stations. He pledged further reductions in sulphur content to below 10 ppm by next week.

Challenging allegations of monopoly, Dangote invited scrutiny of his refinery's products through independent testing, contrasting it with doubts about testing standards for imported products by regulatory bodies. He also announced the group's decision to withdraw from Nigeria's steel industry to avoid market dominance allegations, reaffirming their commitment to local manufacturing integrity.
