Did you know we have fantastic yet underappreciated cars?

Not all outstanding automobiles receive the accolades they deserve.

Some very outstanding automobiles appear to fly under the radar. We've compiled a list of some of the most underappreciated automobiles of the last 60 years to give them the recognition they deserve. Which vehicles would you add to our 40-car list?

1. Citroën GS

The Traction Avant, 2CV, and DS have gotten a lot of column inches and screen time, while the Citron GS has gotten a lot less. The European Car of the Year in 1971 brought the technology of the luxury DS to the people, debuting a year before Britain's wet Morris Marina. "Citron may claim to have found the vehicle as a motorised cart and converted it into a magic carpet," claimed famed British motorsport journalist LJK Setright.

2. Alfa Romeo 155 Q4

The Alfa Romeo 155 Q4 is the sophisticated version of the Lancia Delta Integrale. The regular 155 TS was powered by a 2.0-litre Twin Spark engine with 145 horsepower, whilst the Q4 had a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with 188 bhp and a 0-60 mph pace of 7.0 seconds. Because power was supplied to all four wheels, you were less likely to encounter gravel or grass, as a certain Gabriele Tarquini did.

3. Vauxhall Carlton

Lotus here, Lotus there. Too fast on the road; should be prohibited. You've probably heard of the Vauxhall Lotus Carlton; the supercar killer deserves a place in the annals of motorsport history. It's easy to forget that underlying the Lotus look was a solid family saloon, especially in 140 mph Carlton 3000 GSi form. Big Vauxhalls are rarely given the credit they deserve. Also, see Omega and Senator.
