WHO IS TELLA?
Tella is an ESL company from Korea that offers tutorial services to Koreans who desire to learn the English language for many purposes. Students at Tella are mostly adults who came from different walks of life. Some students are still studying at universities, while some are already working, handling their own business, or planning to go abroad.
HOW TO TEACH AT TELLA?
There are two ways a tutor can teach at Tella: (1) chat-based, or (2) call-based. Those who are lucky enough to get hired as chat-based tutors are required to conduct a 1:1 lesson for 25 minutes, while those who are hired as call-based tutors need to have a 1:1 lesson for 15 minutes. Lesson materials at Tella are provided, and the only thing left for tutors to do is study those materials and deliver it well. Remember that the students at Tella are adults - people who already very knowledgeable - so it is safe to say that if you want to be a successful tutor at Tella, you need to be diligent enough to research for additional knowledge that you can share with your students.
WHO CAN APPLY AT TELLA?
The follwing are the qualifications needed to apply at Tella:
1. Good command of the English Language
2. A minimum of 50 wpm typing speed (they say it's only 45 wpm, but when you are already actually working at Tella you will wish that you have at least a 50 wpm typing speed - believe me!)
3. Desktop computer or laptop, a stable internet connection (wired/wireless), a back-up internet connection in case there is a power outage in your area
4. Headset with a noise cancelling feature is preferrable
5. Degree and work exeprience is not required but preferrable
6. A quiet working environment
HOW DOES TELLA PAY THEIR TUTORS?
The minimum number of hours that a Tella tutor is required to work a day is three, while the maximum number of hours a Tella tutor can work a day is nine. Within those nine hours, the maximum number of 15-minute lessons that a Tella tutor can teach is 27. The equivalent pay for every completed 15-minute lesson is 1 dollar or more depending on the starting rate that the admin gives to a newly hired tutor. The starting rate that the admins gives to a newly hired tutor largely depends on different factors like work experience, assessment results, and performance during the simulation period. Hypothetically speaking, if a tutor decides to work for 9 hours a day and gets blessed enough to be fully booked by students, then that tutor will earn 27 dollars or more (let's take into consideration the starting rate that the admin gives to a tutor), but if the tutor only decides to work less than 9 hours a day, then it can be expected that that tutor will only paid less. Tella also gives incentives to people who deserve it, so working at Tella is quiet rewarding.
HOW TO APPLY AT TELLA
One can check this site (
https://tella-co-ltd.breezy.hr/) time and time again to see if there are any job openings at Tella. The application process at Tella mainly consists of different stages. The first stage is submitting an application which consists of completing a form about personal details, device specifications, internet providers, typing speed, and a preliminary english proficiency test. The second stage is the screening which included what I call as the "actual" English proficiency test. This stage is followed by an interview, then self-paced training, and then a series of demonstrations or simulations.
Many can apply and be accepted but not all can stay at Tella because the moment you got accepted and begin teaching, that's where the real test really begins. The actual teaching stage will really test how firm you are with your choices and how committed you are to your promises during the application stage. That's why before you apply, steel yourself.
