Mama Ebele’s smile wavered as she took a step forward. “What nonsense is this? You’re a nobody! Just a filthy beggar pretending to be someone you're not! You have no place in this family.”
Ethan's blue eyes, once dull and hollow, now glowed with a fire that startled even Mama Ebele. “I am the heir to one of the wealthiest families in Africa,” he continued, his voice growing louder, sending shivers down the spines of the audience. “My name is Ethan Okojie, son of the late Chief Okafor Okojie, the owner of the Okojie Industries. I faked my poverty, I faked being a beggar, because I needed to test the true character of the people around me, especially the woman who would become my wife."
Adama gasped, her heart pounding in her chest. This man—this beggar—was the son of one of the richest families in Africa? And he had been playing the role of a beggar to test her?

Mama Ebele’s eyes flickered with anger, but she was speechless. Her world was crumbling before her very eyes, and she had no idea how to fix it.
Adama, still standing in shock, turned to look at Ethan. The man she had thought was a beggar, the man she had been forced to marry, was now standing before her as someone she never could have imagined. “You…” she whispered, her voice trembling. “Why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you say anything sooner?”
Ethan’s expression softened. “I needed to see if your heart was as pure as I had been told. I needed to make sure you weren’t like the others who only care about wealth and status.”
Mama Ebele’s face twisted with rage, and in a moment of desperation, she lunged forward, trying to slap Adama. But Ethan was faster. He stepped forward and grabbed her wrist, his grip unyielding.
“You will never harm her again,” he warned in a low, menacing voice.
The guests watched in stunned silence as Mama Ebele was escorted out of the room, humiliated and defeated. The tension in the air began to lift, but Adama was still in shock.
“Adama,” Ethan said softly, his eyes filled with a tenderness that made her heart skip a beat. “You don’t have to marry me if you don’t want to. I only wanted to protect you. The choice is yours.”
Adama looked around at the people who had gathered to witness her disgrace and then at Ethan, the man who had saved her. She felt a wave of gratitude and something deeper—something she had never felt before.
“I…” she began, her voice cracking, “I don’t know what to say…”
