Former President Uhuru Kenyatta Pokes Holes On Ruto's Failed Programs

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has accused his successor, William Ruto, of undoing the significant accomplishments made during his time in office. Speaking at the Jubilee Party Special National Delegates Conference (NDC) held at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi, Kenyatta highlighted the successes of his administration, including the Linda Mama program. He lamented that these achievements have now been replaced by untested and unproven projects under President Ruto's leadership.

Kenyatta expressed concern that Kenyans are bearing the consequences of these changes as they wait for the new projects to become effective. The Linda Mama program, launched in 2013, provided free health insurance for pregnant women and their newborns, offering comprehensive services from prenatal care to postnatal and infant care, including immunizations and delivery.

Sadly, this program was replaced by Linda Jamii, a revamped maternal care package under the newly formed Social Health Authority (SHA), which aims to cover the entire maternal journey. Kenyatta noted that many of the achievements of his administration have been eroded, and the new schemes have yet to prove their effectiveness. This delay has resulted in Kenyans suffering and the nation's progress being hindered.

Kenyatta also reflected on his earlier warning to Kenyans about their political choices in the upcoming 2022 elections. He urged the government to focus on using its resources to improve the lives of its citizens rather than attacking them. He stressed that the government was not meant to oppress its people but to serve their needs.

Finally, Kenyatta reminded the audience that the machine they had built was not designed to turn against the citizens. Instead, it was meant to work for their benefit. He emphasized that the government's actions should align with its purpose of uplifting the lives of all Kenyans.
