Jakarta (Jambi Province Communications and Information Office) – Jambi Governor Dr. H. Al Haris invited the Regents and Mayors of Jambi Province to meet with the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Indonesia, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), to discuss infrastructure issues in Jambi Province. The meeting took place at the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development Building in Central Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon (July 16, 2025).
Governor Al Haris presented several challenges facing Jambi Province in infrastructure development to Coordinating Minister AHY. "With your permission, Mr. Coordinating Minister. Jambi Province is actually a small region, Mr. Coordinating Minister. However, despite its small size, it boasts an incredible amount of natural resources. We possess perhaps almost everything in Indonesia, from gold and coal to oil and gas; everything is in Jambi. Now, it's up to us, the ones entrusted with this, to develop it all, starting with good infrastructure, of course," said Governor Al Haris.
"Therefore, our problem in Jambi, what's missing is downstreaming, Mr. Coordinating Minister, and also supporting our tourism. We have the Muaro Jambi Temple, which our father visited when he was president," he continued.
"Our four problems are: first, limited infrastructure that supports regional creativity and a regional logistics system; then, weak investment attractiveness in the utilization of natural resources and tourism. Next, there's the lack of new urban growth centers, which haven't been supported by improvements in the urban hierarchy at the regional and national levels. Finally, there's vulnerability and vulnerability to disasters, including forest and land fires, Mr. Coordinating Minister. Jambi is also a region with a high incidence of forest and land fires, but God willing, our forest and land fire management has improved significantly in the last year," he added.
On that occasion, Governor Al Haris also stated that Jambi Province hopes to achieve 7 percent economic growth, and all of this can be managed well to achieve President Prabowo's hopes. He also highlighted one of the issues facing Jambi Province, namely the Ujung Jabung Port, whose development has currently stalled. "With your permission, Mr. Coordinating Minister. We have Ujung Jabung Port, and it's stagnant. It was built around 2014 or 2015, but it's been stagnant for a while. This port is very close to Batam and Singapore. Even when viewed from South Sumatra and Bay Island, its position is even more extraordinary," said Governor Al Haris.
"Well, we've tried to persuade all parties, and we've also been wooing the Minister of Transportation. It would be a shame if we didn't maximize this. There's already state funds there, and if we had more, this port money could be utilized later, for things like coal, CPO, and other things," he added.
In response, Coordinating Minister AHY promised to help find rational and realistic solutions or alternatives for Jambi Province.
"What's clear is that our enthusiasm is the same, ladies and gentlemen. If Jambi can become more advanced and prosperous, it means we can also make Jambi a model for regional development in each district/city, and Jambi will certainly become a successful province," said Coordinating Minister AHY.
"We also really appreciate everything that has been achieved, and hopefully, things will improve in the future. We will monitor and follow up on the several things we've discussed to find solutions for, so that we can see concrete results," he concluded.
