HOW I BECAME A CELEBRITY (PART TWO)
My mom ushered the stranger a seat and came in to get me and asked if I was aware of the development and I answered in the negative.
Mom, I don't know.
Who would have shown him where we live?
I don't know Mom, I'm as surprised as you are.
We were whispering and talking in low tunes when we suddenly heard the doorbell ring again.
Who's there? My mom asked.
It's your neighbor and friend.
Meanwhile, the stranger got up as soon as we showed up in the sitting room and made obeisance.
My mom got the door, while I went straight to sit down in the sitting room.
As soon as I sat down, he greeted and asked if my mom had told me what he came for.
I had barely answered, when my mom came into the sitting room to join us.
You are quite welcome to my home Mr James Royfold.
Thank you Mrs. Leigh, I appreciate.
Can we go to the reason why I came? My father is waiting for me.
Oh yes! My mom answered.
But I don't quite know if my daughter is ready for this! She's old and mature enough to speak for herself.
Stacy is a lovely lady and a great musician, said the stranger.
It would be my honor, to offer her this opportunity to be a worldwide celebrity.
She would take the world by storm and our foundation would love to have the honour of showcasing her talent to the world.
Even though there was no formal introduction, I needed to say something and I spoke.
I'm still in High school and won't be done until two years time, I said.
With fidgety hands together, the stranger, broke the news to my mom that the Jakes Rayfold Foundation, would take over everything that has to do with my schooling and education to the highest level, from now on, if I would agree.
Oh wow! My mom exclaimed. Stacy and I, would want some time to think this through. We would get back to you soonest. Just give us a little time.
Okay madam, how long should I wait, to get back?
A week's time should do, my mom answered.
Okay then, I'll be on my way now.
Yes, see you soon, my mom answered.
A WEEK'S TIME.
The stranger didn't waste a day more, before showing up at our house.
I heard the car horn and peeped through my bedroom window and saw him. This time he came alone and not with his entourage.
He headed towards our door and rang the bell.
Unfortunately, my mom wasn't home, I got the door.
As soon as I opened the door, he began to stutter and asked shyly, where's mom?
She's off to the grocery store to get some groceries, I answered.
We need to get her home, he said. We have an unfinished business.
Where's the grocery store please?
By Barkely street, in town, I answered.
Okay, let's go get her.
But I'm not properly dressed.
You're perfectly fine, the way you are, let's go.
As we got to his car, he opened the door for me I sat down. As he drove off, out of my street, we saw mom walking down the road, with the grocery bags she was holding.
He saw mom first before me and pointed to her. Look! there she is! He halted and jumped out of the car to help her out with the bags.
I was so speechless, cause I didn't expect him to be as kind. It is so rare for an honourable rich man, to be kind to people he barely know.
My mom was so tired and looked stressed. She was so relieved, when she saw the stranger.
Oh my son, thank you.
He helped her put the groceries in the car, as we drove back to the house.
Stacy, what are you doing here?
We came to get you mom, I replied.
You've been to the house already?
Yes mom! The stranger and I answered simultaneously and we looked at each other in amazement. It was a coincidence.
I was feeling a bit uncomfortable already.
My mom has taught me, never to talk to strangers, but here am I, in a total stranger's car, heading home.
We had a long drive, cause we didn't head straight to the house. He reversed his car and took us to an eatery, where he ordered for food as we discussed.
He didn't waste time, he went straight to the point.
We laughed through out the discussion.
My mom was so pleased with the stranger and his kind words, that she accepted all he offered that day.
I couldn't believe my ears. I'm going to be a star and so suddenly!
Clara is not here right now, to share this good news with. She traveled to a nearby town to see her mom, who works there.
I can't wait to tell her everything.
The stranger brought out some papers and gave me a pen to write my name and sign them.
I must be dreaming!
