Society and everything around us has programmed us to believe that women are more emotional than men. Is it true that men are less emotional than men?
Whereas it is easy to believe that men are less emotional compared to their female counterparts, the actual truth lies in how different genders learn to express their emotions.
Emotions are a part and parcel of our existence as human beings regardless of our gender. Whereas women are traditionally thought to be more emotional than men, the truth is that women are only more expressive with their emotions.
The complex human experiences that we have in our daily living often cause us to display a variety of emotions as coping mechanisms. Research suggest that men are however less expressive of their emotions and this may be as a result of various factors.
The high societal expectations on men have however affected the male gender when it comes to how they express themselves. When a man is expected to lead, provide, and protect, it affects how they express themselves even though the emotions are as intense as they are experienced by women.
Emotions like joy, anger, fear, love, and sadness are often expressed differently and this is dependent on various factors. While vulnerability in women is highly encouraged, in men it is often regarded as a weakness.
Socialization and cultural factors also play a significant role when it comes to the display of emotions, there are certain societal stereotypes that affect men and women differently and this informs the expression of their emotions.
When it comes to emotions, we are not the same, some men are more expressive of their emotions than women and the vice versa is also true.
