One of the most demanding stages of being a parent is when your child becomes a teenager. Most of the time, teenagers feel that they are almost adults, so they might change overnight if care is not taken. As a good parent, it is your responsibility to see that your teenager does not go astray. This is why you need to have a strong bond with your child. The following are ways you can maintain a strong bond with your teenager:
Be Available:
One thing every child wishes for is a parent that is available for them, both physically and emotionally. A parent that is always there for them, through the good times and not so good times. If you're this type of parent, then you won't find bonding with your child a difficult thing. Encourage them to build up whatever talent they have. This way, they will be more open with you about their hopes and dreams.
Don't Keep Secrets:
If you're the type of parent that is open with your teenager, they will also be open with you. Now is the time they need to know about how to relate with the opposite gender. They need to know their limits. Don't assume that your child is still too young to know. In fact, it might surprise you that your teenager knows a lot more than you can even imagine. This is why you should always be as open as possible. It will be easier for them to bond with you, and harder for them to keep secrets away from you.
Communicate Effectively:
Conditions might make it so that you won't have much time to be around your teenager. Even when this happens, don't let the communication between you fade away. Regular and effective communication strengthens your bond. Try to call, text as often as possible. This way, your teenager will feel closer to you than ever.
