I love culture and tradition. A lot of us reading this piece can agree with me that no matter who you are, you have a culture and tradition of your people or community in you.
Permit me to take you back to my days "off and on" in my Secondary School days.
I am Not the type you can ascribe to be dullard. I love reading a lot, brainstorming and from hence i fell in love with writing. I can write any topic except Applied Science.
Back to the time I was in SS1... When I got admitted at St Anthony's Catholic Comprehensive Institute Agulu after my days in Ivory Coast 2002-2005/2006,..it was a memorable experience in those days. We take pride in our academics as if we were going to become Albert Eistein. I love English language with passion to download everything in it inside me. The SS1 class has a population of 260-300 students. It was the best academic environment in town within Agulu and Nri town as that time.
In one of those days, My English Tutor gave us assignment on Essay Topic of our choice.
Because of my type of person, I like stories and I chose the Topic IGUARO OF NDIGBO BY NRI KINGDOM....I got a very high mark on it, because I chose my words properly.
This is where i grabbed the above topic.
Nri Kingdom is my native town, located in Anaocha Local Government Area. Nri people are known for a lot of traditional things like... culture heritages such as;
✓The Keeper of Ofo(Symbol of Justice) NDIGBO
✓The Ancestral Homeland of NDIGBO.(Freedom Town for Mothers who gave birth to Dwarf in the olden days)
✓Performance of Alu rites(Cleansing of Abomination)
✓Nri people are known for Peace, Love and Caring.
There are a lot of forbidden things in Nri today such as;
A woman climbing a tree.
A brother sleeping with his sister,mother,or niece. All sorts of incest is forbidden.
Wearing white cloth on the day "Adama masquerades" comes out is forbidden.
Eze Nri is not permitted to See masquerade.. Because he's believe to be Chi(Demi god).
A woman who is married must not engage in adultery.. it's highly forbidden.
This is a case of tradition of Yam ritual performance. Yam is a great source of wealth in Igbo land. Farming became habitual behavior of the Igbo race. There's no clan in Igbo land that do not plant yam.This is the reason in the olden days names like.... Okuta olue ibe, Ochiri ozuo, Ofia bu aku, Diji...etc were renowned names for farmers and it was given to men who have the farming prowess.
Whatever prayer is offered on this day, it's a general believe that the land on which the farmers will farm is fetile and will bear great farm produce.... especially YAM and the rest of farm produce.
To this regard, The people of NRI KINGDOM and the Regent King... Prince Ikenna Onyesoh (Idebuteaku 1 of NRI KINGDOM) will proclaim the Igbo new year.
This event will grace the presence of Our Famous Music star #IKEM_MAZELI (Onye Nwe Egwu) will be performing Live at this year's Iguaro Festival at the Palace of His Royal Majesty Eze Obidiegwu Onyesoh...
