Kaduna School Feeding Programme Empowers Women and Supports Local Farmers – Gov’s Aide

Kaduna, Nigeria | October 10, 2025 — The Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on School Feeding Programme, Dr. Fauziya Buhari-Ado, has commended the state’s school feeding initiative for its dual impact on women’s empowerment and local agricultural development.

Speaking after receiving the 2025 4th Humanitarian Bootcamp Award in Nairobi, Kenya, Dr. Buhari-Ado highlighted the programme’s success in providing economic opportunities for women while sustaining demand for locally sourced farm produce.

Empowering Women and Boosting Local Agriculture

According to Dr. Buhari-Ado, the Kaduna State School Feeding Programme continues to serve as a model for social and economic transformation. Through the initiative, thousands of women have been employed as cooks and food vendors, giving them a steady source of income and financial independence.

“The school feeding scheme not only nourishes our children but also uplifts women and strengthens local economies. It ensures that our farmers find ready markets for their produce, creating a ripple effect of empowerment across communities,” she said.

She expressed her profound appreciation to Governor Uba Sani for his “vision, trust, and leadership” in championing the programme, describing it as one of the state’s most impactful social intervention policies.

Her award-winning presentation, titled “Feeding the Future: Leveraging Humanitarian Leadership to Achieve Food Security and Economic Transformation in Africa,” emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships and stronger humanitarian leadership in the fight against hunger across the continent.

National Alignment: The Renewed Hope Mo’Feed Project

Dr. Buhari-Ado’s remarks come shortly after President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling child malnutrition and low school enrolment through the Renewed Hope Mo’Feed Project, a national feeding and empowerment initiative.

The project, launched on October 3, 2025, in Lagos, aims to reach over 600,000 vulnerable Nigerians across all six geopolitical zones.

Speaking at the launch, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding, Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, noted that the Mo’Feed Project aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda, targeting food insecurity, poverty reduction, and youth empowerment.

“This initiative will not only address hunger but also enhance school attendance, improve child health, and stimulate local economies through agriculture and small-scale enterprise,” Adeniji said.

Toward a Hunger-Free and Empowered Africa

Dr. Buhari-Ado called for deeper collaboration among African governments, humanitarian organizations, and development partners to ensure the sustainability of feeding programmes.

“Africa’s food future depends on how well we empower women, support farmers, and integrate humanitarian leadership with innovation. Feeding our children today means securing our continent’s tomorrow,” she stated.
