Kenyan politician and East Africa Legislative Assembly member Kanini Kega recently made a post on Facebook where he stated that he does not start a war that he is not sure of winning.
This statement comes amidst the current political climate in Kenya and the Jubilee party. Kega, who was previously an ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been at the center of attention due to his involvement in the Jubilee party.
Recently, Kega was appointed as the new secretary general by a group of lawmakers and party members, while Jeremiah Kioni has maintained that he holds the position.
This week, Kega announced that Sabina Chege would be the new party leader, suspending former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Kega cited constitutional requirements that state a retired president should not participate in active politics for six months after elections. However, Kega's actions of seemingly going head-on with Kenyatta have put him in a precarious position, with pundits warning of dire consequences in case his plans backfire.
Kenyatta still has a considerable amount of support, and he is not a pushover. He has called for a National Delegates Convention later this month, where he is likely to address some of these issues. The question remains, can Kega win this political battle
