Minor Eruption at Taal Volcano in Early October

A minor phreatomagmatic (steam-driven) eruption occurred at Taal Volcano on October 1 at around 2:02 a.m. local time.

The eruption was brief and ended by **2:15 a.m.**

PHIVOLCS (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) maintains Alert Level 1 for Taal Volcano, meaning that the volcano is in a state of heightened unrest but not necessarily erupting violently.

Officials note that minor eruptions are common for Taal. Over 90 phreatic and phreatomagmatic events have been recorded since April last year.

So, while a volcanic event did occur, it was in the early morning hours—not in the afternoon—and was relatively small in scale.
