NO HUMAN IS LIMITED

The only stumbling blocks and limitations that we have on our paths are those we have made for ourselves. Anybody can go beyond the expectations of society – and himself – to achieve what seems unattainable. It is a good way of going against societal and individual limitations and it seems to suggest that, at individual level, the sky has never been, should not be, and will never be the limit.

The concept of human limitations – or lack of it – is a two-pronged affair: the positive and the negative implications. On the positive note, there can never be anything that can hold back anyone who wants to achieve their dreams. The condition is that there has to be some exertion first. Therefore, one can give one’s all in extending a helping hand to the less fortunate in society, in achieving the highest grades in school, in offering the most exemplary service at their place of work, in sports. We even say that disability is not inability – even the physical challenges cannot stop one who wants, literary speaking, to fly. And all this is commendable.

The other prong is the negative one; the dark side of this bright concept. We have people who are evil, and whose intentions are all geared towards making life a living hell for others. They are like a weight that is attached to the individuals who want to go places. And they cause misery to these go-getters. History has more than enough names that belong here. And, in my culture, these individuals are never celebrated, in life or in death.

While we, in conclusion, assert that no human is limited, can we endeavourto expand our horizons in a positive way, and thus emboss an indelible mark on our neighbor, so that, years later, someone will reminisce and say, appreciatively, that they would never be where they are had it not been for us?
