Renowned political analyst Prof. Herman Manyora has sparked intense debate by outlining what he calls President William Ruto's "secret weapon" for securing re-election in 2027, even if the influential Mt. Kenya region turns against him.
In a recent media appearance, Manyora asserted that Ruto could bypass the estimated 5 million votes from Mt. Kenya by strategically selecting a Muslim running mate.
"He could go for a Muslim candidate. Those are five million votes that can wipe out Mt. Kenya's supremacy in terms of numbers," Manyora declared.
This move, he argued, would consolidate the Muslim voting bloc, traditionally a swing factor in Kenyan politics, neutralizing regional strongholds.
Manyora's comments come amid Ruto's efforts to mend fences in Mt. Kenya through development projects and emissaries like Interior CS Kithure Kindiki. However, the analyst warned that retaining Kindiki as running mate could doom Ruto's chances, predicting a "minimal" victory prospect without diversification.
Critics dismiss the idea as speculative, but Manyora insists it's a "fair and square" path, urging Ruto to pivot from ethnic math to broader coalitions. As Gen Z unrest simmers, this alleged blueprint could redefine Kenya's electoral landscape ahead of 2027.
