Francis Oketo, a 7 year old boy was born in Kijungu village, Hoima district in Uganda. His parents say he was born talented because of what he does.
Oketo, who is in primary two now says that he developed talent from his mother’ womb. This sounds hilarious to many until you meet him.
The kid makes a lot of creative items from sculptures to drawings, puppets among others. This his parents say has made him a celebrity in school. “one time he made a drawing of his school director in 30 minutes and this earned him a bursary’’ says his mum.
Earning from the art
Oketo’ earnings are got from local tourists who visit him at home to have a look at his sculptures, drawings. He charges 15 USD per day for each person which is equivalent to about ug shs 55000.
According to oketo’ mum whose role is to manage all the activities, they receive about 20 tourists on week days and over 70 on weekends. This has made them to earn a lot of millions of money weekly.
A drawing costs 10 USD for kids and 20 USD for adults. “we get about 15 orders from different customers each day who want our son to make drawings of the”. Says his mum.
The mum to oketo even resigned from her low paying sales job to focus on managing his son. The dad to oketo is unemployed so it means that the entire family feeds from oketo’ talent.
BENEFITS
Oketo ‘family has managed to build a multimillion house, establish a farm and purchase a family car. Oketo ad now looks after the farm and the mum manages her son’ talent and finances.
