Samsung had to push a brief halt on the spread of One UI 7 globally for other phones after reports of severe bugs that affect some core functionality and privacy threats. Now the rollout had started on April 7, 2025, for the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6.
Bugs That Made Immediate Action Necessary
One of the most horrible reports came from Galaxy S24 users, who reported they could not unlock their phones after the update. This bug gained prominence when several users, from South Korea primarily, came out and publicly disclosed the problem. The glitch essentially locked users out of their phones, making the devices almost not usable.
While the unlocking issue was addressed, there was a serious vulnerability in the Secure Folder feature meant for protecting private content. After the One UI 7 update, personal images and videos stored in the Secure Folder began showing up in auto-generated "Stories" within the Gallery app, thus exposing sensitive media without any users' consent. The bug further triggered grave concerns regarding user privacy and data security.
Samsung Swings into Action
Coming back to its senses, Samsung immediately halted the One UI 7 update in all regions and in all devices. The company admitted the issues and confirmed that its development team is currently investigating the root causes. Samsung has stated that a new rollout schedule will be announced once the issues are fixed and thoroughly tested.
What Users Can Do Now
With regard to the users who have already installed the update, immediate measures should be taken according to Samsung to minimize risks; one of them is disabling the "Auto-create stories" option in the Gallery app within the Secure Folder. This feature can be disabled via Gallery app Secure Folder Menu > Settings and turning off the feature for stories.
Looking Ahead
Samsung promised that all its users would benefit from a seamless experience while safely using various devices. The company is expected to issue a patch shortly and will resume the rollout of updates after addressing the bugs.
In the meantime, users should not attempt to install the update using other sources and wait for officially finding a fix. Keeping devices secure and private is a top priority, and for Samsung, restoring faith in the One UI 7 update is with a better stable release.
