On 28th February 2022, Russian and Ukrainian delegations held the first peace talk in Belarus to call for a ceasefire and withdrawal of Russian troops in Ukraine.Online meetings too have been held but no positive results had ever been concluded for the last two weeks.
But a significant sign of progress in peace talks between the two countries have emerged in the latest meeting that kicked off on 29th March 2022 in Istanbul, Turkey even as shelling continues.
While the Ukrainian delegation said it's ready to accept a neutral status, have Russian troops out of their territory and any arrangements to be supported by Ukrainian people in referendum the Russian delegation responded by promising to reduce military operations in northern Ukraine, Chernihiv and around Kyiv in order to create room for further progressive talks.
The face to face meeting between Putin and Zelensky is currently being discussed as Russia sets a condition that it can only happen once a peace agreement is drafted. The western governments have though warned that this could be a plan by Russia to buy russian millitary more time as it prepares for a bigger attack on Ukraine.
