Strikes are rolling across Europe as unions push for higher wages to offset inflation

Workers are demanding wage increases, sometimes by double-digit percentages, as the cost of living rises

Strikes are stalling trains in France, delaying criminal proceedings in England and hampering air travel across Europe, while union leaders across the continent are taking advantage of the rising cost of living to demand sometimes substantial pay rises.

Spain-based cabin crews at low-cost airline easyJet PLC are demanding a 40% increase in their base pay and future annual pay rises in line with inflation amid strikes they plan to continue this month. In England, criminal lawyers - who are self-employed but receive fees from the government for representing defendants who cannot afford their own lawyers - are demanding a 25% pay rise in a strike spanning a second week.
