Tales of the outcast

Born when the sun was too hot even the ground had cracked open due to lack of rains to quench it’s unending thirst, she cried and her voice echoed throughout the compound. The men outside were disappointed since the child was not a boy, as boys were considered more important than girls. “Aah, what is this now???”. Such questions were heard as they whispered amongst themselves.  The father was proud but had to hide those feelings of excitement buried inside so as to still be respected. “ You should get another wife who will give a son,”lamented on village elder. “Your wife can’t bear you a son, who is gonna continue your legacy,” said another. “Your name is bound to be forgotten if you don’t have a son,” his father said.

Labelled as a bad omen from the moment she was born no one knew how she would survive. The villagers were angry that she wasn’t a blessing enough to be accompanied by tears of rain. The season had not been favourable as the animals had grown thin due to lack of pasture, the rivers were running low on water as the crops looked like zombies from a distance. What kind of bad omen did she with the villagers were asking.

“She should be killed, or thrown into the forest to appease the spirits,” lamented one woman no one had any idea on how to deal with that situation. Everyone though she’s bad omen, she’s  brought bad luck to us she might be a threat to her family members. Even the village seer did not have an appropriate answer. The council of elders held a secret meeting so as to find a solution on the issues at hand. They thought that she was the reason for what was happening but their thoughts were wrong about her.
