The Pastor, the Thief, and the Talking Goat

Written by precious precious

In the small town of Ogbomosho, there was a notorious thief named Sule. Everyone knew him, but nobody could catch him. One Sunday morning, while the whole town was in church, Sule saw the perfect opportunity to strike. He sneaked into the compound of Pastor Johnson, the town’s most respected preacher, and targeted the fattest goat tied in the backyard.

Sule quickly untied the goat and was about to escape when the unexpected happened—the goat started speaking!

“Brother Sule, where are you taking me?” the goat asked in a deep, serious voice.

Sule froze, his eyes wide like a plate of rice. “Ah! Goat dey talk?! Jesus!” He threw the rope and took off, running like an Olympic athlete.

But the goat was not done yet. “Sule, if you leave me, I will scream and call the whole village!”

Sule fell to his knees, sweating like a Christmas goat. “Please, abeg, no expose me! Na devil work!”

The goat cleared its throat. “You have two options: take me back to Pastor Johnson’s compound and confess your sins, or I will shout ‘Thief! Thief!’ until the whole church catches you.”

At this point, Sule was shaking. He grabbed the goat and tiptoed back to the compound. Just as he was about to tie it back, Pastor Johnson stepped out.

“Sule, what are you doing with my goat?”

Sule fell on his knees. “Pastor, I swear, I don’t know how I got here. Na the goat talk say make I return am!”

The pastor burst into laughter. “Oh! You mean my drama practice goat? I trained it for our Easter play. It only knows three sentences.”

Sule fainted on the spot.

From that day on, he repented and became a church security guard—protecting the same goat he once tried to steal!
