TSC CEO, Nancy Macharia In A Hot Soup, Summoned By Government Over Stealing Teachers Salary Increments

The Teachers Service Commission's chief executive officer, Dr. Macharia, has been put on task by the government's chief auditor to explain cash messes involving millions of teachers' salaries. The government auditor has realized irregular payments of salaries running into the millions alleged to be paid to ghost employees.

The auditor's report seen by Star Kenya indicates that mass embezzlement of funds has been taking place at the TSC headquarters, with individuals with unknown details getting paid salaries. The report claims that up to 87 ghost teachers were able to earn between Ksh. 400,000 and Ksh. The audit report confirms that a total of Ksh. 466,000,000 has been lost from the commission and is being paid to ghost individuals who cannot be found on its payroll.

"Our audit report can confirm that the commission cannot ascertain and account for the Ksh. 466,000,000 said to be paid to teachers. The TSC payroll records do not show the registration details of the employees receiving the cash. With that regard, we request the CEO of the commission to appear before the Chief Auditor's office on Wednesday to shed more light on the issue," part of the report reads, as quoted by the Star Kenya Newspaper.
