UNDER-FIVE MORTALITY IN NIGERIA
When a poor family of Nigeria seek to have an access to Healthcare services, it was as if one seeking to have Heart transplant in developed countries.
I overheard in radio program an unpleasant experience by one lady who lost her infant due to the negligence of some reckless and slob truck driver.
The event happened alongside the Panshekara area of Kumbotso local government. A poor lady in her earliest week of maternity riding a tricycle to the medical center, with her sick newborn baby were trapped in artificial also reckless traffic jam.
As they were deep in the situation they have no alternative of moving either away of the road. The tricycle operate who was neighbour to the lady just heard a sobering sounds behind and look out to saw her crying and she utter "ya mutu".
When the press men contacted the Nonsense truck driver, his excuses for initiating the traffic jam was worthless to mentioned. He stated that his colleague requested him for battery as his vehicle stopped due to battery faults.
The most annoying part of his statement is his pleading utterances about one car 🚗 driver who complained about why would he parked the truck on the road prostrated him.
The issue was known to all low income earners, even without the traffic jam, the infant could die in the event of nonchalant attitudes of healthcare providers. Even there at the medic center shortage of 'everything' could resulted to the infant death.
There is shortage in healthcare facilities across the country and to limited the claim to my state, I will rather say Kano lacks medical centers and the burden is too much on the existing ones. If not the lady will request no tricycle at all.
As propagated by WHO and other Healthcare official reports, one will only celebrate having a child after the fifth year of child birthday. But in Nigeria's context even at tenth year birthday medical practitioners behaviour could led your child death.
