The time for celebration, contemplation and a restart nonetheless yields itself with Easter. To mark a key event when spring starts showing off its brill colors many end up celebrating with people during this time. However what Easter really stands for beyond the eggs and bunnies what is the greater goal.
Easter is a Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Good Friday and Easter Sunday are the days of Christian belief (another a symbol for victory over sin and death) that Jesus was crucified. It is this event that marks the foundation of Christian belief, hope and fresh start.
Easter goes way back though, pre Christian. Easter is named after eostre, a Pagan goddess of Eosturmonth/ spring and fertility. During these times celebrations were focused on the rebirth of life and nature after long months of winter.
Today Easter goes about differently around the world. It has become traditions in various cultures to do things like egg decorating, egg hunts and the Easter Bunny — all representing a new life and a rebirth. Eggs are a wonderful biological symbol for the strong rebirth, and that is why we celebrate Easter with egg should be no surprise.
Easter is a time for some believers where it is enlightening as well as a moment to turn inwards and reflect upon one's faith. I think church services, prayers and doing kind things for people is how we should observe greater meaning of this holiday.
Easter for others is non-religious and a family bonding, happiness time. A time to connect with family, to sit around a table, eat and create memories. At the heart of Easter is its power to unite us, as humans community and belonging.
