Ways to avoid cataract before old age

Cataracts are a common age-related eye condition that can cause clouding of the lens, leading to vision impairment. While ageing is the primary cause of cataracts, there are several other factors that can contribute to their development. Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, poor nutrition, overexposure to sunlight, diabetes, obesity, certain medications, and eye injuries can all increase the risk of cataracts. Additionally, certain genetic factors may also be involved.

Although some of these risk factors, such as age and genetics, cannot be controlled, others can be managed through lifestyle changes. Quitting smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, and maintaining a healthy diet are all very important. You should also wear sunglasses to protect against UV radiation and manage diabetes and obesity to reduce the risk of cataracts. Regular eye exams can also help detect cataracts early, allowing for timely treatment and management.
