When the Rain Came Back

Love Story:

Amara and Jide met on a rainy afternoon in Lagos. She was stranded under a leaky bus stop shelter, and he offered his umbrella with a shy smile and calm voice that sounded like the rain itself. That moment sparked something rare—gentle, exciting, and real. Within weeks, they were inseparable. Every weekend was filled with late-night drives, shared dreams, and promises whispered in the dark.

Jide was an aspiring architect; Amara, a fashion designer. They both believed in building beautiful things—and in each other.

Their love was strong, but life wasn't kind.

Jide got an offer to study in Canada. A big chance. Amara begged him to stay, fearing the distance would destroy them. He promised, “This won’t change us. I’m doing this for us.”

They tried. Calls. Messages. Video chats. But with time, the connection grew thin like a weak signal. Amara started to feel more like a memory to Jide. He missed her birthdays. She stopped telling him about her days. One evening, she cried alone after he forgot their anniversary. Again.

When Jide finally returned two years later, he brought back a ring… but also distance in his eyes. Amara had changed. So had he. She wasn’t the girl at the bus stop anymore, and he wasn’t the boy with the umbrella.

They stood in silence on the same street where they first met. It rained again, but this time, neither reached for the umbrella.

“Sometimes love doesn’t die with a scream… it just fades in the rain.”
