We all like to think that there are better humans out there. Further, if we live by the book, follow the rules, try to be good, and show courtesy, we shall live a fantastic life. Moreover, we shall be on our way to achieving life goals such as wealth and health. Yet, when we become too good to people, we risk running into individuals raised differently from us and unwilling to play by the rules. Consequently, your kindness and following of the rules make you stand out as an easy prey. And the predators start to stalk you, and soon, you become a victim of what people refer to as the unfairness of the world. We ask ourselves, why me? Well, why not you? The world is not that abstract, where things happen as if they are in binary form or represented by zeros and ones., having situational awareness and comprehension that sometimes people, in general, are vile and evil monsters! From my experience, people are selfish and mean, arrogant, stupid, egotistical, and dishonest! Accordingly, here are life's complex and bitter truths:
1. The Invisibility of Your Benevolent Actions: An unfortunate truth about life is that no matter how many good deeds you do, they often go unnoticed. It's like planting a seed in the ground, watering it, and watching it grow into a beautiful flower, but no one ever sees the effort you put in. However, make one mistake, for example, accidentally uprooting the same flower, and suddenly, everyone has a magnifying glass ready to point out your flawed gardening technique. It's a harsh reality; our errors, magnified by the microscope of judgment, become the spectacles that define us in the eyes of others, overshadowing previous acts of benevolence.
2. The Poor are Friendless: In this world, money talks louder than words. People may say they value good thoughts and character, but in reality, they only care about appearances and wealth. A poor person may have a heart of gold and have zero friends, the ones with money that are often noticed and made friendless. Friends are more like moths drawn to the flame of material success rather than the dim flicker of a virtuous soul. It's like a cosmic version of the naked emperor’s and his new clothes, where cash is the emperor and friendships, the vain courtiers trying to bask in its glory. It's the sad truth, but one that we must be aware of as we strive to break the cycle of materialism.
3. Love Hurts: They say love is a beautiful feeling, but they forget to mention that it also has the power to hurt us the most. The person we love the most has the power to break us into pieces. It resembles holding a fragile glass vase, knowing that at any moment, it could shatter and leave us with nothing but pain. The person you love the most often wields the sharpest knife of betrayal, stabbing you directly to the heart before twisting the knife to complete the mission. But despite the risk, we continue to love and hope for the best because that's what makes us human.
4. The Elusiveness and Paradoxical Nature of Truth: The truth is like a puzzle, simple in its pieces but challenging to put together. It is easy to say, “Just tell the truth,” But when it comes to explaining it, things get complicated. For example, when describing a painting to someone who has never seen it. One can try your best, but they will only partially understand the beauty and complexity as observed from your perspective. Truth's simplicity is as plain as the nose on your face, yet when you try to describe it, it spirals into a paradox wrapped within an enigma as if it were a ghost stubbornly resisting exorcism.
5. The Music we Listen to Reflects our Emotions: Life is like a rollercoaster, with its ups and downs. When we are happy, we can enjoy the music and dance to its rhythm. But when we are sad, we want to feel the lyrics and let our emotions take over. When it rains, happiness and beats are all you hear, whilst when melancholy roars, the sad lyrics embody your soul.
6. Patience and Attitude Intersect: Two things that define us in life are our patience when we have nothing and our attitude when we have everything. It is easy to be patient when we have nothing to lose, but our attitude when we have everything indeed shows one's character. Will one become arrogant and entitled, or will we remain humble and grateful? The individual's endless patience when climbing the mountain of hardships and your attitude that reflects the sun of prosperity will define you.
7. Misery Loves Company: The sad truth is that people often enjoy watching others suffer - "The Schadenfreude Spectators of Life". It is a twisted form of entertainment for them, as they revel in the miseries of others to feel better about themselves. People should remember that their joy is temporary, and strength and resilience ultimately prevail.
8. The Unreciprocated Love: We can love someone with all our heart, but that doesn't mean they will love us back. Love is not something that can be forced or demanded. Individuals make a choice, and we must respect their decision, even if it breaks our hearts. We can't control other's feelings, but we can hold our own and choose to love without expectations.
9. There are Too Many Pressures in Life: Life is like a pressure cooker, and we are the ingredients. We can either crumble under the pressure or come out stronger. As carbon transforms after application into coal and then diamonds under intense pressure, we, too, can become more assertive and shine brighter through our struggles. It's not easy, but it's worth it.
10. It is a Self-Centered World: In a world where everyone is focused on themselves, it's easy to feel like no one cares about us. The truth is, we are all caught up in our own lives and worries. We may not remember the details of a stranger we met, but that doesn't mean we don't care about them. We are all just trying to navigate through life, and sometimes, we forget to look beyond ourselves.
